FAQs

Does it hurt?

This is always the first question potential clients ask me. On a scale of 1 to 10, most clients rate it between a 1 and 4 on the first pass, and a 0 and 2 on the second pass. I use topical anesthetics to keep you comfortable and will ask you throughout the procedure how you are feeling.

What if I want brows, but may change my haircolor down the road?

We will not match your brows to the color you dye the hair on your head. Your natural brow color is what we use to come up with a color suitable for you. Brow hair is almost always a neutral to cool color, even on redheads! Of course, we take your level of comfort into account, but recommend staying within 1 shade of your natural brow color.

I have old permanent makeup and need a touch up. Can I come to you?

When transferring to a new artist, this is typically a “coverup” or “correction”, as we do not know what needle configuration, technique, or pigment type was used previously, and the old work will have faded. We will consult with you on shape, size, color, as well as see you for a follow up after your healing is complete to note on your chart, just as we would for any new client with or without previous work. Touch ups and Color Boosts are for current clients only.

Please reach out to me via email with a confidential, clear photo of your current permanent makeup if you have previous work from another artist.  info@dermadesignatelier.com

Working over someone else’s work is a minimum two to three part procedure, and may or may not be possible with ideal results.  This type of work is booked on a case by case situation.

How long does permanent makeup last?

Permanent makeup requires maintenance. This maintenance can be anywhere from 12 months to 3 years (sometimes up to 5 years for lips and eyeliner!). It varies for each individual, but you can expect some fading and slight color shifting as you approach time for a touch up.

I do not recommend long term touch ups, called “Color Boosts”, prior to 18 months.

Is microblading permanent?

Microblading is a permanent makeup procedure. The only differences between microblading and hair stroke permanent makeup are the tool and method used to implant the pigment. All permanent makeup brow techniques are performed at the same depth in the skin, regardless of the technique used.

The pigments used in permanent makeup are designed to fade over time, but the color is still in fact placed in the upper layer of the dermis. Therefore, this is considered a “permanent” procedure. Although permanent, it requires maintenance, or touch ups, every few years to keep the color looking fresh. It is normal to see the design shrink and the color shift as it fades over time.
